What did we miss in addressing the criterion

Page history last edited by Anonymous 2 yrs ago

1.  Our committment to diversity.

We lost a member of our faculty who held the polar opposite politcal view of most of the rest of us, and even though many things are going much smoother, this seems to be the opposite of our statement in section 4.1 which proposes that we need these viewpoints.  I also know non-native students that believe they are held to a different standard that their native counterparts.   Diversity is a touchy subject, but unless we get it right, we will lose good faculty and students and maybe even jeopardize our existence.

2.  Maybe what we missed is that we don't have enough people to accomplish everything we proposed to do?

3.  I would like to see our students particpate in AIHEC  and compete in some of the programs they have available.  I know it has to do with funding and our students being able to attend, but it seems like a link we are missing on our campus.   Again, offering co-curricular activities is tough given the number of people available on the faculty and what is expected of them, but I wish our students could be more active.

4.  Did we forget to have the students do more and the faculty to guide rather than direct and micro-manage?

Like it or not, technology is a core aspect of education both in front of and behind the desk. Some of us here feel very uncomfortable when using the computer for email, web research, or word processing. We have Smartboards, a very flexible and fine piece of educational technology. The workshop on its use could have been better attended. The new telephone system has frustrated some, as well as the new printer in the library. If we expect to produce graduates that are technologically savvy, it follows that we as staff/faculty should model that. What can we do to train, support, and encourage those of us who are having trouble? Should technology training sessions be mandatory?

Students obviously prefer online resources when doing their research, but to be well-rounded students, they also need to feel comfortable utilizing the library and all its reference options. What can we do as a college to cause students to use print resources? How do we "sell' them on the fact that web research isn't always reliable and should be supplemented with other forms of materials?
